...Periods of Heavy Rain will Likely Lead to Additional High
Water Concerns and Possible Flooding in the Upcoming Week...
Over the past few weeks, eastern Kentucky has received several
episodes of rain that have saturated the ground. This wet soil
will cause much of the additional rainfall through Thursday to
run off into area creeks and rivers.
Periods of heavy rainfall from showers and occasional
thunderstorms are likely across eastern Kentucky through the
middle of the week. Thanks to the tropical connection with these
rain events rainfall amounts to be between 2 and 4 inches across
the area by Wednesday night, with locally higher amounts
possible. This rainfall is expected to cause area creeks and
rivers to rise to near bankfull, or possibly flood in some
locations.
Stay tuned to updated forecasts and statements as flash flood
watches or warnings may be issued at a later time. As always, if
flooding is observed or a warning is issued, move to higher
ground immediately. Never attempt to cross a flooded roadway.
turn around, don`t drown!
